In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5), Jesus brought forth the Beatitudes and then He said:
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
How do you let your light shine? By doing good works. As you do, you glorify FATHER. You should be determined to produce excellence in whatever you do, not just barely meeting minimum requirements. What are works?
The word “works” is defined as:
-
business, employment, that which any one is occupied
-
that which one undertakes to do, enterprise, undertaking
-
-
any product whatever, any thing accomplished by hand, art, industry, or mind
-
an act, deed, thing done: the idea of working is emphasized in opp. to that which is less than work
Each of us have been given certain gifts to excel in. Most likely you began to be drawn to your gift at an early age and if encouraged by your loved ones, you have continued on that path. Some of you have suppressed your gifts because of outside forces expecting you to perform in another area. You have more than one gift and they will promote your calling as you enter into its fullness.
The word “good” is defined as:
beautiful, handsome, excellent, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious, useful, suitable, commendable, admirable
-
beautiful to look at, shapely, magnificent
-
good, excellent in its nature and characteristics, and therefore well adapted to its ends
-
genuine, approved
-
precious
-
joined to names of men designated by their office, competent, able, such as one ought to be
-
praiseworthy, noble
-
-
beautiful by reason of purity of heart and life, and hence praiseworthy
-
morally good, noble
-
-
honorable, conferring honor
-
affecting the mind agreeably, comforting and confirming
Don’t just scan the above words but dwell and meditate on them. Within the understanding of these words is a key to success in your life. Your success is customized by FATHER specifically for you and it is unique for each of us. If you are called to be a nurse, you should be known as the best nurse in your area. If you are called to be a brick mason, you should develop a reputation of being a master mason. Focus on your calling for it is where your “good works” is found.
When you do good works it positively impacts other people and they want to know what motivates you. It becomes your platform to share FATHER’S Love with them. If you sit on your posterior all day doing nothing, you will reap what you sow… nothing. It’s time to be a light unto the world and shine with what FATHER has gifted you with. Are you “retired”? Get out of retirement. Is your house in disrepair? Fix it up with whatever resources you have. Move toward excellence in your life. Remove the clutter and that which you don’t use any more and is still viable, ask FATHER who HE would have you to give it to.
People have moved into the self-consuming attitude of entitlement. They think the rest of the world owes them. Let your good works be the “salt” and the light for them to see.
Jesus spoke the above words that apply today just as they applied when He first spoke them. Where did He get those words? From FATHER. These spoken words are not my opinion for I am simply a messenger to remind us all to not grow weary of doing good. Let these words encourage you to fulfill your purpose. Yes, we all have challenges and can get in a rut but you need not stay there. Revitalize your commitment to good works today and be a blessing. Walk in your calling to do good works which have been uniquely assigned to you by FATHER.
