The first use of the term “Hebrew” occurred in Genesis chapter chapter 14:
13 Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; and they were allies with Abram.
14 Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.
The word Hebrew is derived from a root word meaning: to pass over, cross, cross over. Abraham preceded the Passover of the children of Israel and had his own “passover”. He too left the land of Egypt and went to Canaan to possess it per FATHER’S instructions in Genesis chapter 15:
1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
and
6 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
7 Then He said to him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”
For us to receive our reward we too must cross over from death unto life and as we do then we become known as Hebrews. There are various aspects of our life which need to be separated from our walk and thus we must leave the old man who resides in darkness and cross over to the new man in the light. By THE SPIRIT Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians chapter 5:
16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
We must not look back at the “old” things and only focus on those things set before us. FATHER draws us out of our own Egypt and we must cross over to the land HE has for us. We must renew our minds and no longer consider the old land of the past as our inheritance but embrace the new land of Promise. We must exercise our faith by trusting IN HIM as HE leads us to an area we have never experienced. There is much anticipation and excitement concerning the times ahead for those who expect FATHER’S Love to be the guiding Light of our future. There are those who wish to remain in outer darkness out of fear of the unknown. Their old man plays a central role in their illusion and they are unwilling to leave their comfort zone even though there is much misery associated with it.
Abraham received a great inheritance because he fully trusted FATHER and HIS Word. Let us respond in the same manner by crossing over ourselves.
