Walking In Abundance- Part 7
October 20, 2026 – 3:28 amThe carnal mind cannot apprehend the revelation of God’s abundance.
Jesus expects us to walk in life and abundance. The adversary seeks to convince us to walk in scarcity and ultimately steal, kill, and destroy us. Could the contrast be any greater?
Jesus spoke in John chapter 10:
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have Life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
In other Words, s thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But Jesus came to give you and me everything in abundance, more than we expect—life in its fullness until we overflow!
If you knew no other Scripture, this would be your full assurance to expect abundance!
Jesus further said in John chapter 15:
7 If you abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
What is preventing us from walking in the above revelation? Our carnal mind!
Paul wrote by The Holy Spirit in Romans chapter 8:
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Those who are motivated by the flesh only pursue what benefits themselves. But those who live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit are motivated to pursue Spiritual realities. For the sense and reason of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds Life and peace.
In fact, the mind-set focused on the flesh fights God’s plan and refuses to submit to his direction, because it cannot!
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is Life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Paul provides us with the exact issue each of us must address if we want to walk in abundance… we must deal with the carnal mind!
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is Life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He Who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Paul explains how Jesus frees us from sin’s dominion and how the Holy Spirit enables us to live a new life. Paul moves from what God has done through Christ to how that changes our thinking, conduct, and ultimate future.
God’s commandments reveal what is right, but commandments alone cannot cure our sinful condition. The weakness lies in human “flesh,” not in God’s Law.
God therefore sent His Son “in the likeness of sinful flesh.” Jesus truly became human, yet without sin. Through His sacrificial death, God condemned sin in Christ’s flesh. Sin was judged, and its claim to rule those who belong to Christ was broken.
This freedom does not mean believers never face temptation. It means sin is no longer their rightful master.
Those who walk according to the Spirit take a different path. To “walk” means the continuing direction of your life—your choices, habits, and responses. Walking according to the Spirit means depending on Him and responding to His guidance in obedience to God. This obedience is the fruit of God’s work in us.
What governs your mind shapes your life.
Paul contrasts two orientations:
| Mind governed by the flesh | Mind governed by the Spirit |
| Centers life on desires apart from God | Centers life on God’s will |
| Treats self as the final authority | Submits to God’s authority |
| Moves toward spiritual death | Experiences life and peace |
“Flesh” here does not simply mean your physical body. It describes human life operating under sin, independently of God. Its expressions include pride, envy, resentment, and self-centeredness as well as bodily sins.
Setting your mind on the Spirit means giving sustained attention and allegiance to what pleases God. As you do, you will move toward an abundant life!
