Walking In Abundance- Part 4

October 17, 2026 – 3:05 am

Our faith for abundance is based on FATHER’S solemn oath to Abraham and his descendants which include you and me!

God’s provision is made available through His promises.

Yes. Scripture says God swore an oath when he made his promise to Abraham. Because there was no one greater by whom to swear, God swore by himself (Genesis 22:16–18; Hebrews 6:13–18).

The oath confirmed God’s promise to bless Abraham and his descendants. Hebrews says God did this to make the certainty of His promise especially clear to those who would inherit it. God did not need an oath to become trustworthy; He gave it as an assurance to us.

David wrote by The Holy Spirit in Psalm chapter 110:

4 YAHWEH has taken a solemn oath and will never back away from it, saying, “You are a Priest for eternity, after the manner of Melchizedek!”

And FATHER’S oath was reaffirmed in the New Testament.

It is written by The Holy Spirit in Hebrews chapter 7:

17 For it says in the Psalms, You are like Melchizedek, a King-Priest forever!

18 The old order of priesthood has been set aside as weak and powerless.

19 For the law has never made anyone perfect, but in its place is a far better hope which gives us confidence to experience intimacy with God!

20 And HE confirmed it to us with HIS solemn vow. For the former priests took their office without an oath,

21 but with Jesus, God affirmed His royal-priesthood with HIS promise, saying, The Lord has made a solemn oath and will never change HIS Mind, “You are a King-Priest forever!”

22 So all of this magnifies the Truth that we have a superior covenant with God than what they experienced, for Jesus Himself is its Guarantor!

23 As additional proof, we know there were many priests under the old system, for they eventually died and their office had to be filled by another.

24 But Jesus permanently holds His priestly office, since He lives forever and will never have a successor!

Who better to guarantee our future of blessing and prosperity than Jesus Himself!  Who better to affirm this Eternal Truth than the GOD of Heaven and earth!

With men, the word ‘never” is not fully reliable.  However, with FATHER, the word “never” is absolute and means exactly what it says… NEVER.

Hebrews 7:17–24 says that Jesus’ priesthood rests on a solemn oath from God. The writer points back to Psalm 110:4, where the Lord swears that the promised priest will serve “forever” and will not revoke His Word. Hebrews applies that oath to Jesus.

Let’s consider the contrast in the above passage:

  • Verses 17–19: The former priesthood could not bring people into complete closeness with God. Jesus brings a “better hope” through which we draw near.
  • Verses 20–22: Levitical priests entered office without this particular Divine oath. God appointed Jesus with an oath. That is why verse 22 calls Jesus the guarantee of a better covenant.
  • Verses 23–24: Earlier priests died, so others had to take their place. Jesus lives forever, so His priesthood continues without a successor.
  • Why swear an oath if God’s word is already trustworthy? God does not need an oath to make Himself Truthful. Hebrews 6:17–18 says He uses an oath to make the unchanging Nature of His purpose especially clear to those who need assurance. The solemnity is for our confidence: the priest who represents us before God has been appointed by God’s own irrevocable promise.

So the emphasis is deeply personal: when you come to God through Jesus, you are relying on a priesthood that neither death nor a change of office can interrupt. That leads directly to verse 25:

25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, Who is Holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;

27 Who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the Word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son Who has been perfected forever.

Jesus is able to save those who draw near to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.  What a perfect plan!
