Demonstrating GOD’S Power And Authority

How do you convince people to give their lives to Jesus? It is by demonstration.
Paul wrote by The Holy Spirit in 1st Corinthians chapter 2:
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
In 1 Corinthians 2:4–5, Paul explains that genuine faith should rest on God’s power—not merely on a persuasive speaker.
Paul was not condemning education, careful reasoning, or good communication. He was contrasting two foundations:
- Human wisdom: eloquence, clever arguments, charisma, or intellectual ability.
- God’s power: the Holy Spirit revealing Christ, convicting hearts, transforming lives, and confirming the Truth of the Gospel.
“Demonstration of the Spirit and of power” means Paul’s ministry carried evidence that the Holy Spirit was working. This included conviction, repentance, changed lives, spiritual gifts, and miraculous signs. The power was not Paul’s personality; it was God acting through the message of Christ crucified.
Paul’s concern was the foundation of their faith. If people are persuaded mainly by an impressive personality, another impressive personality may later persuade them to abandon their beliefs. But when the Holy Spirit personally reveals the Truth of Christ, their faith rests on something deeper than human argument.
Let’s consider the results of Peter ministering right after the baptism of The Holy Spirit in Acts chapter two.
Luke recorded by The Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 3:
1 Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;
3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.
4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.”
5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them-walking, leaping, and praising God.
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God.
10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
Would you give your life to Christ if you saw this well-known beggar fully healed? Look at the impact of one healing:
Acts 4:4 However, many of those who heard the Word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.
How long did it take to expand the church? A simple prayer and one miracle.
Peter is no more special to GOD than you or me!
