A double-minded man lives in a state of compromise and his word is unreliable. He is unstable in all his ways. In James chapter 1, he writes:
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
Testing and correction is necessary for attaining the high calling in Christ Jesus. Any thing less is compromise and subject to loss and scarcity in the area of Spiritual Truths and associated fruit. As a matter of fact, you place those whom you have influence in jeopardy of loss as well. Those who are immature in Christ are looking for examples to follow and live by so you must be solemn in your responsibility to be a good example to those who you influence by your spirituality.
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Faith and hope require patience and if you cannot stand a little heat from correction, you effectively have no patience and should not expect any reward from Heaven. You may have “incidents” of success but those will be short lived and you will return to lack and wanting. You will then wonder why FATHER isn’t blessing you… right now.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
There is earthly, sensual wisdom and Wisdom from FATHER. HIS Wisdom always superseded man’s wisdom and takes patience into account. Men are always looking for a quick fix to their problems. They get themselves into a mess and want FATHER to intervene only at those specific times. HIS intervention tends to be consistent, corrective, and requires much patience. FATHER is long-term oriented and HE has all the time it takes to mature HIS Sons. Some men will attempt to label themselves in an effort to convince FATHER to bless them yet their actions would suggest they are vessels of dishonor. FATHER knows their intent and will implement the necessary correction and/or judgment as is necessary. It is best to distance yourself from such men when you see they are in the midst of correction lest you be swept into their judgment as well.
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
An unstable man looks at everyone else as the problem yet never looks into the mirror to find the issue. An unstable man never counts the cost of his decisions but simply decides based on emotion and to satisfy his ego. He will mortgage his future for a little satisfaction in the present. His thinking rarely considers anything beyond a couple of days and his childish in his decisions. He will use Scripture out of context to support his “unsupportable” position but will sell those around him concerning his apparent maturity.
Leaders quote verses from the Bible to put on an air of maturity yet their actions do not line up with the external appearances. They attempt to use their credentials in lieu of the ability to hear from FATHER. FATHER honors those who forget those things in the past and press on to the high calling. Paul stated in Philippians chapter 3:
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
When you set your mind and focus on the Spiritual, the physical will line up for it is at a lower level and subject to the Spiritual. Do not submit to the cravings of the belly but know your citizenship is in Heaven:
17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
Double-minded men try to live with dual citizenship but it will not work. You must decide which path you will follow and not allow your belly to dictate your future. You can’t walk on two paths at the same time. It is your choice, just commit.
