Joy Without Limits

Do you want to be full of joy?

We were born for fruitfulness which brings forth joy.

Wisdom recorded in Proverbs chapter 13:

12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of Life.

“Hope deferred” means something you deeply long for keeps being delayed. The proverb recognizes that prolonged waiting can wear you down emotionally. It does not say that feeling discouraged is a failure of faith.

When the desire is fulfilled, it is like “a tree of life”: it brings refreshment, strength, and renewed joy. The verse describes the real effect of both waiting and fulfillment on the human heart.

It also helps to read it alongside Proverbs 13:19: “A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul.” The Wisdom here is to be honest with God about the ache of waiting while continuing to trust Him. The proverb acknowledges the pain; it does not promise that every desire will be fulfilled on our timetable.

When we value what GOD values, ultimately joy will be the result.

Scripture changes our values by changing what we see as good, important, and worth pursuing. As we hear God’s Word and put It into practice, we learn to judge our choices by His Wisdom instead of only by our desires or the expectations around us.

  • It reveals what God values. Micah 6:8 names justice, mercy, and humble fellowship with God.
  • It exposes our motives. Hebrews 4:12 says God’s Word discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
  • It renews our thinking. Romans 12:2 connects a renewed mind with learning to discern God’s will.
  • It reshapes our actions. James 1:22 calls us to be doers of the Word, not hearers only.

This change is more than memorizing rules. The Holy Spirit uses Scripture to shape our desires and choices over time. For example, a person may still value prosperity, but begin to see it as a means to provide, give, and serve rather than as the measure of their worth.

Paul wrote by The Holy Spirit in 1st Timothy chapter 6:

17 To all the rich of this world, I command you not to be wrapped in thoughts of pride over your prosperity, or rely on your wealth, for your riches are unreliable and nothing compared to the Living God. Trust instead in the One who lavishes upon us all good things, fulfilling our every need.

18 Remind the wealthy to be rich in remarkable works of extravagant generosity, willing to share with others.

19 These Spiritual investments will provide a beautiful foundation for their lives and secure for them a great future, as they lay their hands upon the meaning of True Life.

The point is that money can be useful, but it is a poor place to put your hope.

Paul warns the rich against arrogance and against trusting in riches, which can disappear. Instead, they are to hope in God, “who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” Enjoying what God provides is permitted; treating it as the source of security is the danger.

We are to be “rich in good works,” generous, and ready to share. Wealth becomes a way to meet needs and serve others.  By living generously, we store up treasure for the future and take hold of “the life that is truly life,” pointing toward Eternal Life.  Tood works express a life of Trust in God.

The simple test for prosperity: Where is my hope placed, and what good is my prosperity doing for others?

Correct deployment of our prosperity will bring forth joy in our lives!

Jesus spoke in John chapter 16:

23 “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My Name He will give you.

24 Until now you have asked nothing in My Name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Ask → receive → enjoy → share. We ask the Father rather than relying on wealth for security. When He provides, we receive gratefully and use what we have to do good.  As a result, our joy will have no limits!
