You and I have angels assigned to us by FATHER!
King David recorded by The Holy Spirit in Psalm chapter 34:
7 “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and delivers them.”
This verse is a clear Old Testament promise of God’s protection over those who trust and revere Him. It combines two powerful ideas: God’s Presence and God’s deliverance.
Psalm 34 was written by David after he escaped from the Philistine king by pretending to be insane (see 1 Samuel 21:10–15). David had been fleeing for his life from Saul. He had experienced fear, uncertainty, and danger, yet he looked back and recognized that God had preserved him.
The psalm is both a testimony of God’s faithfulness and an invitation for others to trust Him.
A mighty angel was sent by God commissioned to protect God’s people.
Examples include:
- The angel who protected Israel during the Exodus.
- The angel who shut the lions’ mouths for Daniel.
- The angel who struck down the Assyrian army.
God sends His Heavenly messenger to guard His people.
A manifestation of God Himself occurs in several Old Testament passages, “the angel of the LORD” is a visible manifestation of God, often understood as the pre-incarnate Christ.
Examples include:
- Hagar in Genesis 16. (The first mention of an angel)
- Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3).
- Joshua before the conquest of Jericho (Joshua 5).
Whether Psalm 34:7 refers to an angelic messenger or to the LORD appearing on behalf of His people, the central point remains the same: God actively protects those who belong to Him.
“Encamps around”, the Hebrew word paints the picture of an army setting up camp.
Imagine a military force surrounding a city—not to attack it, but to defend it.
David is saying that God’s protection is not occasional. It is like a protective camp surrounding His people.
This suggests:
- continual watchfulness,
- readiness to act,
- close presence,
- protection from unseen dangers.
The fear of the Lord does not mean living in terror of God.
It means:
- reverence,
- worship,
- humility,
- obedience,
- trust.
Throughout Psalm 34, David repeatedly emphasizes fearing the Lord:
- seeking Him,
- turning from evil,
- doing good,
- trusting His promises.
The promise is directed toward those whose lives are oriented toward God.
“And delivers them”. Deliverance does not always mean avoiding hardship.
David himself:
- fled Saul,
- lived in caves,
- fought many battles,
- experienced betrayal.
Yet God repeatedly rescued him through those trials.
Scripture shows that God’s deliverance can take different forms:
- protection from danger,
- Wisdom in difficult decisions,
- strength to endure suffering,
- rescue at the right time,
- and ultimately salvation through Christ.
Sometimes God removes the trial; other times He carries His people through it.
The New Testament reaffirms this reality.
It is written by The Holy Spirit in Hebrews chapter 1:
14 What role then, do the angels have? The angels are spirit-messengers sent by God to serve those who are going to be saved. TPT
Hebrews 1:14 describes angels as “ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation.”
- Jesus said the Father knows the needs of His children and watches over them.
- Paul declared that nothing can separate believers from the Love of God in Christ (Romans 8:38–39).
While believers are not promised a life free of suffering, they are promised God’s abiding presence and ultimate care.
Psalm 34:7 encourages believers to live with confidence rather than fear.
It reminds us that:
- God’s protection is real, even when unseen.
- Reverence for God leads to a life of trust and obedience.
- God’s Presence surrounds His people in times of uncertainty.
- Deliverance may not always look the way we expect, but God remains faithful.
David’s own life illustrates this Truth. He was often in danger, yet he repeatedly experienced God’s preserving Hand. Psalm 34:7 invites readers to trust that the same God who guarded David continues to watch over those who seek and fear Him.
