We are commissioned when we are in submission to the primary mission!
We are called to be co-laborers with THE LORD. Both Power and authority are given to us to walk out our calling, not create a personal kingdom.
When did Jesus Himself receive power and authority?
Luke recorded by The Holy Spirit in Luke 3:
21-22 One day, Jesus came to be baptized along with all the others. As He was consumed with the Spirit of prayer, the Heavenly realm ripped open above Him and the Holy Spirit descended from Heaven in the form of a dove and landed on and remained upon Him. Then God’s audible Voice was heard, saying, “My Son, You are My Beloved Son. Through You I am fulfilled (well pleased).”
When The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus, His public ministry began. The adversary attempted to undermine His ministry but failed. Jesus walked in power and He came in authority because He was commissioned by THE FATHER.
Where does our authority come from? It comes from our “yes” to the commission given to us by Our Heavenly Father. HE can do everything better than we can and He can do everything better without us, yet HE has chosen us… co-missioned us to operate on HIS behalf. FATHER’S pleasure is working through us. HE takes delight in the concept of us being co-laborers with HIM.
Jesus imparted to His disciples authority and power in Matthew chapter 10:
5 These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans.
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
This was a precursor (and temporary in nature) to their full commission after Jesus’ resurrection. It was to prepare them for their ministry after Jesus sat down at the Right Hand of THE FATHER.
Jesus spoke in Matthew chapter 28:
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them.
17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in Heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to faithfully follow all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
It is vital to embrace the Truth that we have been co-missioned to do the same. This commission is effective throughout the age we are now in.
Jesus came to earth with authority because He was commissioned by HIS FATHER. Why did He come?
The Beloved Disciple wrote by The Holy Spirit in 1st John chapter 3:
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus’ primary mission was to reveal THE FATHER and HIS Divine Intent for mankind. The captives are to be set free! Jesus had to have an encounter with The Spirit of God for Him to have power. The authority of the adversary was successfully eliminated at the cross. We now have legal authority to walk in the power of The Holy Spirit.
Authority comes in our “yes” to His mission. Power comes in the encounter with The Holy Spirit. Power and authority is as necessary right now as it’s ever been in human history. Let us embrace and walk in both!
