As we pursue walking in Holiness, our ability to hear FATHER’S Voice will dramatically improve!
FATHER instructs us to hearken diligently to HIS Voice. If we couldn’t, HE would not have instructed us to do so.
One of the most dramatic contrasts of hearkening to HIS Voice is found when Moses recorded by THE SPIRIT in Deuteronomy chapter 28:
1 “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the Voice of the LORD Your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD Your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.
2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God:
The blessings are detailed in verses 3 through 13
In summation:
14 So you shall not turn aside from any of the Words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
In contrast:
15 “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the Voice of the LORD Your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
The curses are detailed in verses 16 through 68.
Moses also recorded in Deuteronomy chapter 11:
13 ‘And it shall be that if you hearken diligently and earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to Love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
18 “Therefore you shall lay up these Words of Mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
26 “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:
27 the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you today;
28 and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD Your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.
The phrase “hearken diligently” is made of the Hebrew word šāmaʿ (H8085) used twice: šāmaʿ šāmaʿ. Listen, listen or, listen and in listening or, listen closely. Any time a word is repeated, we are to closely pay attention, it is vital for our understanding and future.
And in Exodus chapter 15:
26 and said, “If you diligently heed (H8085 H8085) the Voice of the LORD Your God and do what is right in His Sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
Consider what Jesus said to Saul in Acts chapter 9:
3 As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven.
4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
Jesus spoke in Luke chapter 22:
31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.
32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
Jesus spoke emphatically as He would say “verily, verily” which was also translated “I speak an Eternal Truth” when He spoke in John chapter 5:
19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly (verily, verily), I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
In the Gospel of John, “verily, verily” is used 25 times. Jesus was emphatic as He spoke Eternal Truths to us.
As we pursue walking in Holiness, we will quiet our soul and separate ourself from the noise of the world. As we do, our spiritual ears become more attentive to hear what The Holy Spirit is saying.
Loud music is a distraction. TV can be a distraction. Entertainment can be a distraction. One well known evangelist once said that he separated himself by going to a cabin in the woods to hear GOD’S Voice. The first six days, he heard nothing. Finally, he could hear FATHER speaking once again. I can relate!
Don’t be surprised if separation to a quiet place is required as you pursue walking in Holiness.
