In one of our recent Bible studies, we discussed in detail those who were dressed in proper attire in the Parable of the Wedding Feast and how it is tied to Revelations 19:8: “And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” In Romans, Paul also emphasizes the need to do righteous acts:
Romans 2:13 for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;
Jesus told us in Matthew 22:
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
If the essence of the Law is Love, then we should be a doer of Love.
In John 13:34, Jesus said: “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” He went on to say “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
Isn’t the essence of being a Christian to pursue the fullness of being a disciple of Jesus? We must then be a doer of Love and not a hearer only. How simple does it really get! Expressions or acts of Love promote our callings as disciples, followers, overcomers of Christ. As we fulfill these words Our Heavenly Father will empower us to be in command of resources necessary to bring forth fruit. If your Love for Our Heavenly Father is with ALL of your heart, ALL of your soul, and ALL of your mind, then you will desire to be a doer of the Law, not a hearer only.
