Guarding Against Cleverness

The power of Heaven is with the transformed mind!

To be carnally minded is death and it began in The Garden.  Paul understood the problem and addressed it.

Paul wrote by The Holy Spirit in Romans chapter 12:

1 Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? To surrender yourselves to God to be His Sacred, living sacrifices. And live in Holiness, experiencing all that delights His Heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.

2 Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in His Eyes.

Transforming our mind is vital to becoming mature in Christ and ministering Life to others.  We need to understand the origin of the carnal mind and it began in Genesis chapter 3.

Moses recorded by The Holy Spirit in Genesis chapter 3:

1 Now the serpent was more cunning (H6175 ʿārûm) than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

The word ʿārûm means: subtle, shrewd, crafty, sly, prudent, clever, sensible.  It would be most appropriate to translate the above passage using “sensible”.

This same word is used in:

Proverbs 15:5 NKJV

A fool despises his father’s instruction, But he who receives correction is prudent (H6175 ʿārûm).

Proverbs 15:5 TPT

You’re stupid to mock the instruction of a father, but welcoming correction will make you brilliant (H6175 ʿārûm).

The enemy will convince you with what is sensible in your eyes, without regard to The Word of GOD.  He was and is clever.  The word “clever” means: showing intelligence or skill; ingenious.  When one is clever, he can easily deceive those who are naïve and innocent.  Back to Genesis 3:

2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;

3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’

She was given the Word of God and was able to quote It.

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The adversary altered The Word in his cleverness and pointed to the woman’s senses which would support being sens-ible.

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

Adam and Eve chose their senses over GOD’S Word.

8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

9 Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

10 So he said, “I heard Your Voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

There was no question that Adam could hear GOD’S Voice and now responded in fear rather than being at peace.

11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”

GOD did not ask the question because of the lack of information.

12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”

13 And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

We cannot rely on what appears to be sensible to our limited understanding apart from The Word of GOD, whether written or spoken.  We must beware of what appears sensible because those who are clever and crafty, will take advantage of us every time.  Their goal is to extract our resources from us.

If you want to walk in the power of Heaven and be successful, you must transform your mind to the Truth from Heaven.  A transformed mind will guard you against those who are subtle, shrewd, crafty, sly, prudent, clever, and/or sensible.
